PROJECT   IIa:
Stress managment and quality of life in medical students

DESCRIPTION:
More than 2.000 medical students in the beginning and the middle of their medical training have recently been studied using a specific Questionnaire on Stress management, Life satisfaction, and Health promotion in medical students (Jurkat 2004, 2006, 2007 & 2008) supplemented by the SF-36 Health Survey (Bullinger & Kirchberger) and the BDI. The obtained data have been evaluated and similar studies will be carried out in other universities.

In addition, comparative studies with students in other fields (dentistry, psychology, education, and sociology) have been carried out.

In the near future, new representative studies are being planned in working physicians and in teachers using a revised version of the STQL (Stress management and Quality of Life) (Jurkat, 2009) - see project IIc below.

DESCRIPTION:
The books will be based on the
relevant results of the extensive empirical research of PD Dr. Jurkat - see projects IIa & IIc - as well as his extensive teaching experience in medical education. The intention of the books are primarily of a useful nature in dealing with work stress and effective coping strategies during the course of her/his medical career.

 Stress management, quality of Life and burnout-prevention
 in the health professions (physicians, psychotherapists & dentists) and in teachers

DESCRIPTION:
In the near future, new representative studies are being planned in working physicians and in teachers using STQL-A (Stress management and Quality of Life) (Jurkat, 2010) in various universities and in different German states as well as in Austria and Switzerland.

These studies are based on the relevant results of project IIa and of preceding, extensive empirical research using the Questionnaire on Quality of Life in Physicians (Jurkat & Reimer) both in representative samples in the USA and Germany as well as in physicians with substance abuse, and relevant results in separate studies in working psychotherapists and dentists.
